Marianne Westman "Joyous" mirror
Round mirror with hand-painted linear decor in blue and green colors.
It was designed in 1970 as part of the Piggelin series. Joyous design from Rörstrand.
Marianne Westman was a renowned ceramist, who was a significant representative of Swedish ceramic design in the 20th century. She was born in Falun, Sweden in 1928 and studied ceramics and glass at the University Academy of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. After graduating in 1950, Westman was selected to work at the Rörstrand factory in Lidköping, Sweden.
Initially, Westman was reluctant to work at Rörstrand, as she had plans to open her own shop outside her hometown. However, she went on to become one of the leading designers for the factory in the 1950s-1970s, creating iconic designs such as the "Mon Amie" series of tableware, which is still produced today.
Westman's work was highly regarded, and she was represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
