Marcello Fantoni plate

€ 580 EUR

Colorful ceramic plate with matt and shiny glazes.

Marcello Fantoni (1915–2011) was born in Florence, he started studying ceramic art at the Istituto d'Arte di Porta Romana at the age of 12, learning from well-known artists like Carlo Guerrini, Libero Andreotti, and Bruno Innocenti. He graduated as a master of art in 1934.

In 1936, he opened his own ceramic studio in Florence, where he made many pieces, including sculptures and things for homes. His work became really popular after it was shown at the Florentine Arts and Crafts Exhibit in 1937.

After World War II, when he was in the Italian Resistance, Fantoni made more and more art to meet the growing demand for modern decor, especially in the United States.

Fantoni's creations are known for their bold shapes, abstract designs, and use of bright colors and textures. He was inspired by Cubism and ancient Etruscan ceramics, and he experimented with different techniques like sgraffito and new ways to apply glazes.

In the 1950s, Fantoni worked with Raymor, a New York company that imported and distributed home decor. This partnership was very important because it helped Fantoni's modern designs reach American consumers.
