Eusebi Díaz-Costa pitcher
This striking green glazed ceramic vessel, with its lively bull's head form and expressive horns, is a classic example of Eusebi Díaz-Costa's creative vision from La Bisbal d’Empordà. The playful sculptural approach, a blend of traditional rural motifs with a modern sensibility, shows both technical mastery and imaginative flair.
Eusebi Díaz-Costa (1908–1964) was a pioneering ceramist and painter based in La Bisbal d’Empordà, Spain, a region noted for its historic pottery traditions. Starting his artistic career as a landscape painter and student of Joan Colom, Díaz-Costa shifted to ceramics in the mid-twentieth century, just as the tourism boom demanded new, creative approaches to traditional crafts. He was among the first in the area to envision popular ceramics as truly decorative and functional, using bold forms, color, and decorative invention to make his pottery stand out.
