Bonnie Rehnqvist lamp for Törngrens, Sweden, 1960s
Bottle‑shaped stoneware piece with a gently rounded, tapering body and a narrow neck. The surface is finished in a rich turquoise‑blue glaze, framing a large hand‑painted panel of a stylized golden bird perched among green leaves, outlined in dark lines that give it a vivid, graphic folk‑art character. The combination of saturated color, bold illustration, and simple form is very typical of Rehnqvist’s mid‑century work for Törngrens in Falkenberg, Sweden.
Törngrens Krukmakeri is one of Europe’s oldest preserved potteries, founded in 1789 in Falkenberg by tile and pot maker Hans Törngren.
The workshop remained in the same family for seven generations and became a major regional center for earthenware, producing both everyday household wares and, from the mid‑20th century onward, more modern decorative ceramics.
In the post‑war period Törngrens collaborated with skilled decorators and designers such as Bonnie Rehnqvist, whose hand‑painted motifs helped give the pottery a distinctive Scandinavian modern identity that is now sought after by collectors. Regular ceramic production ceased around 2014 when the last potter, Bengt Törngren, retired, and the site today functions partly as a museum preserving this long craft tradition.
