Alfaraz plate

€ 450 EUR

This Alfaraz ceramic plate features a distinctive hand-painted profile portrait in the center, framed by a textured, geometric border typical of the studio’s modernist aesthetic.

The Alfaraz Pottery studio was founded by Miguel Durán-Lóriga in the town of Alcalá de Henares, located just north of Madrid, Spain in 1952. Durán-Lóriga, who gained acclaim in the mid-20th century, was known for his inventive ceramic work and influence on Spanish design.

Alfaraz operated with two distinct production lines: one specializing in small, decorative items typical of mid-century modern design, and another dedicated to larger-scale architectural ceramic murals. These pieces ranged from stylish bowls and vases to vibrant public art installations, reflecting Durán-Lóriga's commitment to integrating artistic ceramics into everyday life and urban spaces. The factory's creations are notable for their craftsmanship and bold aesthetic, making them representative of Spanish modernist ceramics from this influential period.
