Lapid Ceramics vase, Israel, 1960s
A tall, bottle-shaped Lapid Ceramics vase with a narrow neck and small flared rim. The body has a warm speckled brown glaze, encircled by a bold hand‑painted band of geometric arches in deep blue, green, mustard yellow, and white, giving it a strong mid‑century modern look.
Lapid Ceramics was founded in 1943 in Tel Aviv and later the company shifted toward art pottery, hiring European-trained designers like Elsbeth Cohen Silberschmidt, who introduced bold, hand-painted styles.
In 1957, Lapid was acquired by Koor Industries and became known for its distinctive tableware, blending Israeli cultural influences with Scandinavian and mid-century modern aesthetics. During the 1960s and 1970s, Lapid's ceramics featured earthy tones, geometric patterns, and abstract motifs. Today, Lapid pieces are highly collectible, appreciated for their unique craftsmanship and historical significance.
