Fratelli Fanciullacci vase, Italy, 1960s
Vintage vase with white and blue glaze, featuring raised floral decoration and fine speckled line details.
Ceramiche Capraia was established in Capraia Fiorentino (Florence) in 1862 by Raphael Fanciullacci, initially producing simple table and kitchen ware. By the late 19th century his sons had joined the company and it became Fratelli Fanciullacci (the Brothers Fanciullacci), later moving production to Montelupo Fiorentino in 1911 to benefit from the new rail link and rapidly expanding output. The firm continued making tableware while developing a wide range of artistic ceramics in many styles, and after World War 2 it was acquired by Colorifico, Bitossi’s parent company, but remained independently run and is regarded as one of Italy’s notable ceramic makers.
